A North Carolina native, Cole grew up with a mother who loved rock and folk music, while his father was a fan of hardcore hip-hop artists like 2Pac and Ice Cube. These influences helped shape his unique sound and storytelling style.
After moving to New York City for college, he began producing his own beats and releasing mixtapes, quickly gaining attention in the hip-hop scene.
His big break came when he was discovered by Jay-Z, who signed him to Roc Nation. J. Cole became the first artist signed to the label to release an official debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and featured the hit single Power Trip.
In 2013, he released Born Sinner, which included guest appearances from Miguel, TLC, and Kendrick Lamar.
Since 2013, Cole has also hosted an annual tour called “Dollar And A Dream,” where fans who pay just one dollar can experience live performances featuring songs from his early work, creating a close and authentic connection with his audience.
He continued his success with critically acclaimed albums like 2014 Forest Hills Drive, 4 Your Eyez Only, and KOD. Known for his introspective lyrics and minimal use of features, J. Cole has become one of the most respected voices in modern hip-hop.
In addition to his music career, he is also the founder of Dreamville Records, supporting and promoting new talent in the industry.
